Glenn W. Merrick received his B.A. degree in 1976 (majoring in theoretical mathematics and economics), magna cum laude, from the University of Colorado where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.  Mr. Merrick received his law degree, with high honors, from the University of Texas in 1979.  While at the University of Texas, he was a Chancellor (top 1%), Order of the Coif, a member of the Board of Advocates and Articles Editor of a law review.

From 1979 to 1980, Glenn served as a law clerk to the Honorable Thomas M. Reavley, Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.  Glenn is a member of the Colorado and Texas bars, and has been admitted to the bars of the United States Supreme Court, the United States Courts of Appeal for the Fifth and Tenth Circuits, and the United States District Court for the District of Colorado.

From 1980 to the present Glenn has practiced law in Denver, Colorado.  He is an AV peer rated lawyer in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, and the founder and Managing Member of G.W. MERRICK & ASSOCIATES, LLC, which maintains its offices in the Denver Tech Center.  In addition, Glenn is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Denver College of Law where he has taught various courses since 1988.

Glenn is a frequent lecturer on the CLE circuit (having been a faculty member at many dozens of CLE seminars conducted both inside and outside of Colorado).  He is also a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and is a member of the American Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association and the Denver Bar Association.  Glenn is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Commercial Law League of America and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the World and a host of other Whose Who publications.  Glenn has been repeatedly selected for the annual edition of Colorado Super Lawyers.

Glenn is a seasoned trial lawyer and has served as lead trial counsel in many dozens of trials, both jury trials and trials to the Court.  He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in commercial, real estate, lender liability, personal injury, malpractice, domestic relations and other civil litigation.  He has won very sizable judgments (exceeding $10 million) on at least four separate occasions, and has won verdicts completely exonerating clients facing tens of millions of dollars in liability claims.  Glenn has also served as lead counsel in substantial breach of contract, construction and securities arbitrations conducted under both the NASD and the AAA commercial arbitration rules.  Glenn has been retained on numerous occasions to provide expert witness testimony in the areas of insolvency rules, fraudulent transfers and conveyances, attorney professional responsibility, and the reasonableness of claimed legal fees.

Mark K. Shaner represents commercial and residential real estate developers, construction companies and other businesses and individuals. A highly experienced transactional attorney, Mr. Shaner’s practice is focused on financial matters, real estate transactions, commercial law, tax planning and strategy. Mr. Shaner has served as lead counsel for hundreds of corporate and real estate transactions throughout the Rocky Mountains and the United States.

Mr. Shaner has been practicing law in Colorado since 1976 and holds five advanced degrees. He received his undergraduate degree from Antioch College in 1972. In 1975, after attending the London School of Economics, he was awarded an LL. B. degree (an international legal doctorate) from Cambridge University Law School. That same year, Mr. Shaner was awarded a law degree from the University of Denver School of Law. In 1976, Mr. Shaner was awarded a Diploma in Historical Studies from Cambridge University. In 1979, he was awarded an LL. M. (an advanced legal degree) in taxation from the University of Denver.

Joseph T. Bernstein is a partner at the firm specializing in criminal, family, bankruptcy, and business legal matters. With over 14 years of broad experience in a variety of fields, Joe’s priority in any case is to solve problems and achieve a positive outcome for clients under difficult circumstances.

Joe received his undergraduate degree with honors from the University of Michigan in 2000. In 2002, he was awarded a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School, where he was the executive editor of a law review. Joe’s legal career started in Chicago, Illinois, where he represented large corporations in the context of intellectual property litigation and licensing. He has practiced law in Denver, Colorado since 2006.

As a criminal defense attorney, Joe has represented clients on DUI/DWAI, domestic violence, theft, assault and a host of other charges. As a family law attorney, Joe has litigated dissolution and post-decree matters involving the division of assets, parenting time, child support and related family issues.

In the bankruptcy field, Joe has successfully represented debtors and creditors in chapter 7, chapter 13 and chapter 11 proceedings, and in bankruptcy-related litigation and appeals arising from the claims of creditors. As a business lawyer, Joe has counseled both large and small companies regarding corporate formation, business strategy, licensing, mergers and commercial litigation.

Joe’s litigation experience extends to the state and federal courts in Colorado and Illinois, and federal district courts in Florida, New York, Virginia and California. Joe has pursued and defended appellate cases before the Colorado Court of Appeals, the Colorado Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

Katy Brailsford joined G.W. MERRICK & ASSOCIATES, LLC in June 2018. As a paralegal, she assists the firm’s attorneys and clients in the preparation and filing of legal documents, pleadings and forms. Katy works closely with clients in a variety of different types of cases to ensure that deadlines are met and cases are ready for trial.

Katy graduated in 2011 from Metropolitan State University with a bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management. Prior to joining the firm as a paralegal, she worked in office management and secretarial roles in hospitals and small health care offices. With over seven years of administrative experience, Katy ensures that the office runs efficiently.

When not at the office, Katy enjoys off-roading and camping adventures with her family and shopping whenever possible.
